2017 LGSI@StanfordThe 2017 California Local Governance Summer Institute at Stanford University (LGSI@Stanford) will take place from July 23-28. Hosted by Professors Bruce Cain and Blas L. Pérez Henríquez, the program will offer city managers, county executives, regional directors, and other senior officials the opportunity to acquire the tools necessary to improve local government performance.

During this week-long institute, instructors will challenge participants to consider long-view policy issues in local government decision-making, such as new technological advances and the transition to a low carbon economy. Further, the curricula will help attendees focus on and address current challenges facing communities throughout California and the West. Sample themes that will be covered range from strategic financial management practices to consideration of transport and urban infrastructure upgrades to enhance economic competitiveness.

LGSI@Stanford fosters active participation and provokes insightful discussion on various public management concerns. The program incorporates the International City/County Management Association’s (ICMA) Practices for Local Government Management: strategic planning, policy facilitation, technological literacy, and integrity. Arrangements can be made to assist any participant who wishes to start the process of obtaining ICMA credentials by completing their self-assessment during the program’s duration.

The deadline to apply for the 2017 Local Governance Summer Institute is June 2, 2017. Tuition is $6,000, with an early-bird discount of $5,500 for attendees who apply before February 28, 2017.
