2018 Wes McClure Scholarship recipient Kelsey Alter

Kelsey Alter, one of the two 2018 Wes McClure Scholarship recipients, has thanked the California City Management Foundation for its support in advancing her academic goals.

I would like to thank you for your generous contribution to my education. Your support helps me immensely in pursuing a graduate degree at California Lutheran University in Public Policy and Administration and will further assist me goiwellng forward as I strive to accomplish my career goals.

When I was selected for the scholarship in May, I was an intern in the City Manager’s Office at the City of Santa Clarita. In early August, I was offered the opportunity to intern in Human Resources at the City of Santa Clarita. This is my third internship, which has certainly reinstated my passion for local government and public sector management. This opportunity has not only enhanced my organizational awareness at the City of Santa Clarita, though it has also taught me a lot about training and development, the skills necessary to be a manager, and necessary functions of Human Resources as a public agency.

At my current internship in Human Resources, my most significant projects thus far have included coordination of the Job Shadowing Program, the Human Resources Monthly Update Memo to the Leadership Team, the Mentoring Program Culmination event, the Internship Career Development Workshop, and tracking employee performance evaluations. This opportunity has provided me with great insight regarding my path in the public sector, and it has certainly been beneficial to incorporate knowledge from my educational background in the workplace.

This scholarship will contribute significantly to my professional and educational goals, and I would like to sincerely thank you for selecting me as one of the 2018 Wes McClure Scholarship recipients. I look forward to seeing where my career will take me going forward. I want you to know that I genuinely appreciate the generous support and I am extremely honored to have been selected.

Sincerely,

Kelsey Alter

CCMF wishes Kelsey all the best on her continuing journey into the city management profession. Further, we would like to thank our members for their role in supporting upcoming talent and future leaders.
