CCMF recently announced its call for applications for the 2014 Wes McClure scholarship.

The two $1,500 awards, given annually to graduate students attending a public or private university or college in California, help to cover direct educational expenses, such as tuition or books. Students need not be committed to a specific area of academic study to qualify. Successful applicants will be interested in pursuing a career, or be actively working, in local government.

Applications for the scholarship are due by August 1, 2014 and must include a cover letter, a 750 word essay, and two letters of reference. For more information, please click here.

The award is named after Wes McClure, who worked as City Manager of San Leandro for 28 years. He passed away at the age of 94 on December 20, 2009. Wes had many outstanding attributes, including an unparalleled ability to listen. His patience and skill in this regard contributed enormously to his successful career working with city councils and impacted CCMF directly during the formation of the foundation, in which Wes played an integral part.
