2019 Advocacy Trip

This resource was created by the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) in direct response to CCMF’s recent advocacy trip to Sacramento. Having received questions from various members about interim appointments over the years, CCMF organized a meeting to speak directly with PERS representatives. Newly appointed CCMF President Ken Striplin led the team’s efforts in securing the PERS’ partnership for this resource. PERS is also available to answer any additional questions CCMF members may have on the topic.

“Many cities often turn to retired public servants to fill vacant positions while searching for permanent solutions, but it’s not always clear what benefits the interim managers receive if they are already retired,” said Striplin. “CCMF felt very strongly that this was an area where we could partner with PERS and provide direct responses to our members’ questions. We are grateful to PERS for the clarity that they have delivered.”

The document outlines post-retirement employment basics, eligibility requirements before hiring a retiree and vacant position appointment requirements. Additional post-retirement employment resources are included within the guide.
