2017 LGSI@StanfordAs members know, CCMF is a sponsor of this annual seminar, referred to as LGSI.

Registration now is open for the 2017 program. Details are available on the Internet at lgsi.stanford.edu and on LGSI’s new Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/lgsistanford . The Institute will be held on July 23-28, 2017 on the Stanford University campus and there will be reduced rate rooms available at a nearby hotel for LGSI participants.

Senior local government professionals including city managers, county executives, department directors, division managers and other senior-level local government officials who are interested in the LGSI program should go to the web site and Facebook page and research what it offers. If the timing works for you, this would be a great professional development opportunity. The twenty-seven local government executives who attended last year’s institute described great personal and professional growth on their evaluations, providing feedback that helps LGSI continue to evolve as the best program of this type for California and the American West’s local government leaders.

The curriculum, with its continual refinement and improvements, again focuses on professional issues that city and county senior managers face, including

  • leadership in our changing society,
  • improving local government performance
  • enhancing your capacity to innovate
  • anticipate societal change
  • sustainability in a time of constant change,
  • the move towards smarter communities,
  • public mobility initiatives,
  • community engagement, and
  • the disruptive effect of technological change in society.

The program also continues personal professional growth sessions including

  • strategic thinking,
  • ethics, and
  • contemporary finance and budget management.

The 2017 LGSI program will feature presentations from a variety of Stanford faculty, leading practitioners in California local government and innovative leaders from the high-tech community in Silicon Valley where LGSI is based. LGSI is designed to present the best blend of the academic and the practitioner worlds to local government professionals who want to expand their outlook and skill set in this continually evolving field.
