Leadership in a Time of Uncertainty, Fear and Recovery

Wednesday, October 7 at 2:30-3:45 PM

Speakers: Jason Holley (City Manager, City of American Canyon), John Pietig (City Manager, City of Laguna Beach) and Cameron Smyth (Mayor, City of Santa Clarita)

Presider: Karen Pinkos (City Manager, City of El Cerrito)

Description: Collectively, California had one of the most aggressive responses in the nation when it came to stay-at-home and social distancing directives during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. This approach also meant a longer timeline of a panicked public who were impacted economically and itching to go back to “normal.” Learn how three cities coped with unique situations to keep their communities informed, calm their City staff, and pave the road to economic recovery.

Is a Virtual Workforce Our New Normal?

Thursday, October 8 at 10:45 AM-12 PM

Speakers: Michele Williams (Chief Information Officer, City of Culver City), Grace Leung (City Manager, City of Newport Beach) and Bob Bell (Managing Partner, Peak Point Consultants)

Presider: Aaron Adams (City Manager, City of Temecula)

Description: In Spring 2020, many cities found themselves scrambling to set up makeshift virtual workforces. After the dust has settled and technology kinks have been smoothed out, what have we learned? Are remote workforces here to stay? Come learn from a mixture of city management professionals as they share their various insights and experiences in empowering their staff to work remotely and advice on how to sustain the option if you so choose.

These sessions will offer key insights on municipal operations and leadership in the face of extraordinary challenges. We will release information about the timing of the sessions as soon as the schedule is finalized. Come together virtually to celebrate the resilience of California cities, the League and local government leaders!
