The CCMF Mid-Late Career Workshop is one of several ways the California City Management Foundation supports local government professionals at every stage of their leadership journey. This multi-day workshop offers an opportunity for mid-career professionals to step away from their day-to-day responsibilities, reflect on their career growth and connect with peers navigating similar opportunities and challenges in public service.

Throughout the workshop, participants engage in thoughtful conversations about leadership, professional development, career advancement and the evolving role of local government. The experience creates space for participants to share their perspectives, ask questions and learn from one another in a supportive environment designed for meaningful connection and continued growth.

The 2026 Mid-Late Career Workshop took place in Laguna Beach from April 22-24, 2026. A cohort of 9 local government professionals attended the workshop.

  • Aly Zimmerman – City Manager, City of Rocklin
  • Armando Villa – City Manager, City of Menifee
  • Gabriel Martin – General Manager, Desert Recreation District
  • Greg Ramirez – City Manager, City of Camarillo
  • Inez Alvarez – City Manager, City of Monterey Park
  • Jason Holley – City Manager, City of American Canyon
  • Jason Simpson – City Manager, City of Lake Elsinore
  • Justin Clifton – City Manager, City of Murrieta
  • Laura Snideman – City Manager, City of South San Francisco

Participants reflected on the value of having dedicated time to discuss the next phase of their careers with colleagues who understand the work of local government. From leadership development to navigating change, the workshop encouraged attendees to consider how their experience can continue shaping their service to their organizations and communities.

“Attending the Mid-Late Career Workshop gave me the space to step away from the day-to-day grind and talk openly with peers about the real issues seasoned city managers face. In such an intimate and rejuvenating setting, I was reminded that we are not alone in this work—and that setting boundaries and pacing ourselves is essential to continue serving our communities well.”
