USC’s Price School of Public Policy has long been a source of talent for local governments. In 2006, several city managers holding Master’s degrees from the Price School encouraged the director to establish a program committed to steering young talent into careers in local government as city managers. In response, the school established the City/County Management Fellowship, providing full or half scholarships for 6 to 10 students every year.

The fellowship is overseen by an advisory board of local government executives from Southern California. They meet monthly with the program director and the student fellows to discuss topical issues in local government and to provide coaching and professional advice on how to launch a successful career in city management. CCMF is proud to say that one of our board members, Bruce Channing of Laguna Hills, is also a member of the City/County Management Fellowship board of directors.

“The grant funds from CCMF are used to assist these grad students with paying for  training programs and conferences,” said Channing. “It is a very positive relationship and has already produced some impressive results.”

CCMF’s support of the program is one way in which it strives to support and encourage excellence in city management, both now and for decades to come.
